THE HEALTH OF MY SIAMESE CATS

In this section you will find some information regarding what concerns the health measures taken in my cattery

When breeding, health must necessarily be at the top of a breeder's priorities, otherwise there is a risk of selecting "time bombs" or kittens destined to be weak and sick. Here is what my modus operandi is regarding the selection of my cats:

1*Strict study of the pedigree and gathering information from different breeders about the cats in the pedigree to understand the longevity of my lines and any health issues so as to curb them.

2*Once a year randomly test for upper respiratory tract diseases (herpesvirus and calicivirus) and gastrointestinal tract diseases (parvovirosis, giardia, tritrichomonas phoetus). I usually use Genefast Laboratories in Forli, which works with breeders of both dogs and cats. Just send the sample (buccal or fecal) hermetically sealed by mail and in a very few days you have the result.

.3*Testing for the genetic diseases identified for the Siamese breed (in the case of Siamese affecting the eyes) and breeding negative cats or a single cat carrying the gene. Specifically these are: Gangliosidosis, Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (affecting the skeletal and nervous systems), Primary Hereditary Glaucoma and Progressive Retinal Atrophy. In this case I use the laboratories in Germany of Labogen, which have packages related to genetic diseases of each breed. Again, you just send by express courier the buccal swabs and in no time you get the outcome.

4*Full vaccine prophylaxis: trivalent vaccine (herpes, calici and parvovirosis) at two months and booster at three months. (I am evaluating the new vaccine guides that propose 3 vaccines for puppies). After that annual booster.

5*Before delivery of puppy coprological test to ward off intestinal parasites.
